Quantum Reflection Theory

QRT operates on two distinct but interconnected layers: a philosophical/metaphysical layer concerning the ontology of reflection, and a scientific/experimental layer proposing testable hypotheses about quantum mechanics.

Important: Layer Distinction

QRT spans two domains that must not be conflated. The philosophical layer makes ontological claims about the nature of reflection. The scientific layer proposes empirically testable hypotheses. These layers have different verification standards.

Layer 1Philosophical / Metaphysical

Ontology of Reflection

The philosophical core of QRT concerns the nature of reflection itself—how meaning emerges through recursive interpretive processes, how observation constitutes rather than merely discovers, and how relational structures ground being.

Core Claims

  • Reflection is ontologically constitutive, not merely epistemic
  • Meaning emerges through recursive superposition of interpretive states
  • Observation participates in the constitution of the observed
  • Structural determination precedes material determination

Verification Standard

Philosophical coherence, structural consistency, integration with MURON system. Claims are evaluated by conceptual rigor, not empirical test.

Layer 2Scientific / Experimental

Quantum Interpretation Hypothesis

The scientific extension of QRT proposes specific hypotheses about quantum mechanics that are, in principle, empirically testable. These claims are speculative and require independent experimental verification.

Hypotheses

  • Wave function collapse as structural determination event
  • Observer-system entanglement as relational constitution
  • Measurement as participatory ontological act
  • Superposition as interpretive multiplicity

Verification Standard

Empirical testing, experimental replication, falsifiability. Claims must meet scientific standards independent of philosophical validity.

Note: The scientific layer is currently at hypothesis stage. No experimental verification has been conducted. These claims should be understood as speculative extensions, not established scientific findings.

Integration

How the layers relate

The philosophical and scientific layers of QRT are distinct but not disconnected. The philosophical layer provides the conceptual framework within which the scientific hypotheses make sense. The scientific layer offers potential empirical grounding for philosophical claims—but only if verified independently.

Important: The validity of the philosophical layer does not depend on the scientific layer being correct. Conversely, empirical falsification of the scientific hypotheses would not automatically invalidate the philosophical framework—it would require revision of the scientific extension, not abandonment of the ontological core.

This dual-layer structure is intentional. QRT claims that reflection has both metaphysical significance and potential physical correlates. These are related claims, but they operate in different domains with different verification standards.

System Position

QRT within MURON

QRT is one of five core theories within the MURON philosophical system. It addresses the specific dimension of how meaning and interpretation function within relational ontology.
